New Maryland Government Documents Display: Farmers Markets

Thursday, June 12, 2014

A farmers’ market is an on-the-go retail market featuring fresh foods sold directly by local farmers to the consumers. These markets typically consists of booths, tables or stands, outdoors or indoors, where farmers sell fruits, vegetables, meats, and sometimes prepared food and beverages. They exist worldwide and reflect their local culture and economy. In some cultures, live animals, imported delicacies unavailable locally, and personal goods and crafts are sold to help bring in customers. In comparison to traditional grocery stores farmers’ markets provide fresher, seasonal and healthier foods to consumers.

The state of Maryland has made it easy to find farmers’ markets for the year 2014 with a directory map of where the markets are throughout the state. Along with knowing the specific market information, you can also search various food products and obtain nutritional information. Not only are farmers’ markets known for providing healthy, nutritional foods, but you can now double check the nutritional value on Maryland’s Department of Agriculture website yourself!
